The doctor is advising against surgery, which i have also heard.   Physical therapy is an option, but are there any natural solutions?  Exercise, medication?  What about glucosamine, chondroiton  or shark cartilage?

I am suprised no one else jumped in to say yoga.  Definitely gentle yoga under the supervision of an experienced teacher, but yoga can help you adjust imbalances in your back muscle, and loosen your joints and ligaments.
